The Photo of the Day deals on the Kids In Action on board a styropor while plying the placid waters near the landing point en route to Tiktikan Lagoon within the vicinity of Sohoton Cove in Bucas Grande Island, Socorro, Surigao del Norte, Philippines. The sight of the innocent stare of the children had captivated my attention and refused to be erased in my mind until nowadays. The ingenuity of the kids in action in utilizing the styropor as mode of conveyance is worth appreciating.

The photo of the Day is the Giant Headdress with the dancers belonging to the Higa-onon Tribe at the center on their best attire as participants to the annual Kaamulan Festival featuring the seven tribes (Higa-onon, Bukidnon, Manobo, Talaandig, Matigsalug, Tigwahanon and Umayamnon) residing in the Province of Bukidnon, Mindanao Island, Philippines. I took this Giant Headdress photo during my trip from Cagayan de Oro City to Davao City via Buda when I passed by this head-turning structure at the junction between the national highway and the Sayre Highway leading to the town of Impasug-ong, which is a Higa-onon term meaning make the current come upstream.

The comely Rizal Monument in the Town Plaza of Socorro in Bucas Grande Island, Philippines.

As a fitting tribute for the 150th Death Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the Philippine National Hero, last December 30, 2011, I deem it appropriate to feature The Rizal Monument as the Photo of the Day. Such Rizal Monument is located in the town Plaza or Square at the heart of the poblacion of Socorro in Bucas Grande Island, Surigao del Norte, Philippines. I took this photo after the floral offering to the Rizal Monument in the concluding part of the 2011 Rizal Day Program.

At the back of the Rizal monument proudly stand the three tablets bearing the engraved English, Tagalog, and Visayan versions of the immortal poem “My Last Farewell” which was written by Rizal hours before his execution at the Bagumbayan Field, now Luneta Park, in Manila. The face-lifting of the Rizal Monument was the brain child of former Mayor Mamerto D. Galanida, Ed. D. who was my partner in translating the Visayan version of “Katapusang Panamilit” being delivered as a climax of the annual Rizal Day Celebration in the said island town.

The Baywalk is a modern seaside strip with a serene environment ideal for strolling, jogging, biking or simply watching the breathtaking sunrise or a romantic sunset amidst the beauty of the seascape. Uniquely designed and colorful lamp posts lining the pathways add beauty to the spot during night time.

This photo was taken during my early morning stroll at the Puerto Princesa Baywalk. Unknowingly, as I poured all my efforts to take a picture of rainbow at a distance, my body blocked the morning sunlight forming a shadow on the lower left hand surface of the photo that perfecttly blended with the landscape.

The subject for the photo of the day is The Rock Boat situated in the southwestern part of the 12,445-hectare Bucas Grande Island, Socorro, Surigao del Norte, Philippines. Truly, I was, and am still fascinated with this rock formation. In my childhood days, I used to hop on the peak of the rock boat and enjoy the surrounding scenery to the cheers of my playmates gleaning sea shells that abound in the vicinity. Nowadays, it becomes a part of the attractions of the high-end Club Tara Resort.
